Better late than never I guess. Piranha Bytes has released a demo for the PC version of Risen 2: Dark Waters that can be downloaded from Steam. Risen 2 is an interesting action RPG, although we expected more from Piranha Bytes. Oh, and the game has been dumbed down – compared to the first Risen. And the combat system is not as deep or polished as we’d hoped to. In other words, it’s not up to Piranha Bytes’ standards and you can try it for yourselves to see whether we are right or not. There is no denying that there is something special about Piranha Bytes. Although their games are bugged to death, at their time of release, they are really addictive. They are not ground-breaking but – at the same time – they are unique and something that is worth your time and effort. And although Risen 2 is dumbed down (compared to the first Risen or the Gothic series) and consolized (especially the inventory system), it’s a pretty good and enjoyable game. Naturally, Piranha’s title had major technical issues when it was released, and that’s precisely why we decided to wait until they fix them. Man, that’s just sad. Risen was a great PC title that was not plagued with all issues that were present in previous Piranha Bytes’ games. SLI was working fine, there were not major pop-ups, performance was good… generally speaking, it was a polished game – for Piranha Bytes’ standards. Fast forward a couple of years and here we are with a really broken game called Risen 2: Dark Waters. Now I don’t want to be harsh, but I’m pretty sure that the multiplatform development had a major impact to the PC version. I tell you guys, it’s a really broken game. And what’s even more disappointing is the fact that the day-one DLC that was released for Risen 2 can be easily unlocked via the in-game console. Hooray, it’s time for day-one DLCs. And you thought that Street Fighter x Tekken or Mass Effect 3 were bad enough, right? Guess again. Deep Silver today announced that two DLCs for the pirate RPG “Risen 2: Dark Waters” are available for purchase on PC. Naturally, PC gamers can buy them because Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver couldn’t include them in the game. How lovely. Deep Silver released today the launch trailer of Risen 2: Dark Waters. In Risen 2: Dark Waters, the Inquisition dispatches the hero to seek a remedy against the monstrous sea creatures that are interfering with the shipping lines, thus cutting off the islands’ supplies. The pirates seem to know how to deal with these critters… but they are hardly cooperative. The game is slated for release tomorrow on the PC and on August 3rd for consoles. Enjoy!
