Creative Assembly has released the third beta update for its strategy title, Total War: Rome 2. According to its changelog, this patch bring significant improvements to multiplayer campaign speed, Frame Rate improvements on Campaign map on low spec Core2 Duo cpu’s in windowed mode, as well as Frame Rate improvements on Campaign map across all configurations when setting Effects Quality to Low or High. Total War: Rome II – Beta Patch 2 Available, Contains 100 Fixes

As promised, Creative Assembly has released the second beta patch for its newly released strategy title, Total War: Rome II. According to its release notes, this patch comes with some Campaign performance optimisations, improvements on the campaign’s AI round time, pathfinding optimisations for its campaign mode and more conservative out-of-the-box graphics settings and resolution for DirectX 10 and 11 on Mobile GPUs. Creative Assembly’s Creative Director, Mike Simpson, admitted today that Total War: Rome II’s release has not gone as planned and that the team is working hard on fixing this mess. Creative Assembly has also released a hotfix that significantly improves campaign map frame-rate on a variety of hardware combinations, meaning that most people will finally be able to at least play this newly released strategy title. Total War: Rome 2 – Alpha versus Retail Video Comparison

Our dear friends over at PCGamesHardware have created an interesting comparison between the alpha and the retail version of Total War: Rome II. As we can clearly see, the alpha version had a specific color grading effect that is missing from the retail version. Not only that, but the whole lighting system seems better in the alpha version. To be honest, the retail version feels a bit bland in some scenes, so we don’t know what had gone wrong with it.  HDR and bloom effects also seem better enhanced in the alpha version. Moreover, it comes as no surprise that the first set of screenshots for Rome 2 were bullcraps (in short, photoshopped) and nothing more. Enjoy the video below! According to the team, the variety of hardware and general system specifications can cause issues for some people and it is urgently working to help get them the right experience. The team aims to tweak the balancing, AI routines and other features now that it is getting real-time metric feedback from thousands of players.
