A few days ago, we posted an editorial about how all those dreadful scripted events are killing the gaming experience. Seems that we should had also added all those annoying QTEs that were used heavily in God of War. These QTEs are not immersive and have no place in modern-day games as they can be easily replaced by clever, real-time, gameplay ideas. Seriously developers, we are not watching movies. We are playing games and this is definitely not the right way to create dramatic or cinematic scenes. An adventure game like Heavy Rain can get away with this. But the sequel to one of the best tactical FPS games to be filled with QTEs? Seriously now Ubisoft? Oh the horror. Ubisoft announced the development of the latest edition in its best-selling Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 franchise, Rainbow 6 Patriots. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with the support of Ubisoft Toronto and Ubisoft Red Storm, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots revolves around a dynamic single-player storyline that captures the reality of modern-day terrorism and allows players to experience it from multiple characters’ perspectives. Ubisoft released a new trailer for their upcoming action adventure game, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations which showcases some of Revelations’ gameplay features. Ezio will be able to use his Othoman friends, canons and barricades to kill or slow the Templars. In addition, the better your friends do, the more their morale will increase which basically means that even more will be fighting by Ezio’s side. Ubisoft released today a new, official online trailer for Blue Byte’s upcoming real-time strategy and simulation game, Anno 2070. Anno 2070 moves the Anno franchise into a new era, taking players into a world inspired by today’s challenges and tomorrow’s technologies. Anno 2070 takes place in a near-future environment where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable. Ubisoft released today a new patch for their racing game, Driver: San Francisco. Although this patch will be auto-downloaded from Ubisoft’s launcher, you can also download it manually from here. This third update for Driver: San Francisco is 64MB in size and adds support for Logitech’s G27 steering wheel, as well as for very high screen resolutions. Although the PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations has been pushed back to December, PC gamers that are willing to experience the final chapter of Ezio Auditore’s adventures can pre-order the game now from Steam. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be using Ubisoft’s Online Service DRM, although it seems that there will be an offline mode this time around. Nadeo has announced that they will present the map editor of ShootMania Storm this Saturday at Paris Games Week. In case you were unaware of, ShootMania is an upcoming first-person shooter video game by Ubisoft and Nadeo. Might & Magic: Heroes VI has just been released and Ubisoft has rolled out its day-one patch. This patch is 500MB in size and can be downloaded via the game’s auto updater. Ubisoft hasn’t released its changelog as of yet but from what we’ve heard, this update fixes some AI issues, includes better town screens and fixes some other minor issues. After the mind-blowing extended CG trailer of E3, Ubisoft released today an in-game trailer for the latest part of their acclaimed action/adventure game, Assassin’s Creed. In Assassin’s Creed: Revelations player will follow Ezio Auditore da Firenze on his final quest through strange new lands in search of the truth.
