GDC 2015 – Epic Games Shows off Mind-Blowing Open World Environment in Real-Time
During this year’s GDC, Epic Games demonstrated an amazing open world environment that can be created in Unreal Engine 4. This open world environment – which is 100 square miles – was used in its latest Kite Tech Demo, therefore you’ve already got a glimpse of it. However in Epic’s “The State of Unreal” talk, Epic’s Francois Antoine showcased various weather types in that map, as well as day/night cycle and how that affects lighting and shadows, AI animals that react to the players, and more. Nurulize has released a 4K GDC 2015 trailer for RISE Oculus DK2 tech demo, powered by Unreal Engine 4. Quixel’s Jungle Environment – Direct-Feed Screenshots in Glorious 4K Resolution
Yesterday we shared a video showing off Quixel’s latest environment created with Megascans in Unreal Engine 4. As we all know, YouTube greatly degrades visuals, therefore today we are sharing the first direct feed images from that map. While Quixel’s environment is not as realistic – in terms of colours – as Crysis, it can be easily described as a true next-gen version of the first Far Cry game. Quixel has released a new video, showing a jungle environment in Unreal Engine 4 using Megascans. Megascans is a massive online library of thousands of physically based material scans and fully scanned 3D assets. A similar ‘scanning’ technique was used in the beautiful ‘The Vanishing of Ethan Carter’ from The Astronauts.
