Earlier this month, we shared a 24GB HD Texture Pack/Mod for Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin. Created by modder ‘fromsoftserve’, that pack overhauled all of the game’s textures. And, from the looks of it, fromsoftserve is now working on a new lighting overhaul mod for this FromSoftware game.
This mod will be called Scholar of the Second Sin Lighting Overhaul Mod and will be based on theĀ Lighting Engine Mod. The mod will also feature the aforementioned Texture Pack, meaning that you can get both of them in one package.
This new Dark Souls 2 lighting overhaul mod will force all bonfires cast dynamic shadows. Moreover, light fixtures in every zone will now cast shadows. Not only that, but it will remove unnecessary point lights held over from the old rendering engine, and it will add new dynamic lights.
In order to showcase the mod, fromsoftserve shared the following gameplay video. This video will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.
Dark Souls 2 was criticized by a lot of people when it came out. For some bizarre reason, FromSoftware severely downgraded its lighting system, and that rubbed Dark Souls fans the wrong way. Thankfully, though, these lighting mods can give us a glimpse at the game’s initial art concept.
There is currently no ETA on when this Dark Souls 2 lighting overhaul mod will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Enjoy the video!
