YouTube’s ’64 Bits’ has released an incredible video, showcasing what Helldivers 2 could look like as a retro 2D action shooter for the NEO-GEO and the arcades. This looks absolutely insane, and it’s a game I’d wholeheartedly buy. Alas, this is only a concept video. Still, it looks really cool, so be sure to watch it.
As you can clearly see, this fan demake looks like a Metal Slug game. And I’d really love to see such a spin-off of Helldivers 2. I know this will never happen. But man, imagine a Metal Slug-like game with these graphics and support for up to four players. With crossplay. Now THAT would definitely sell like hotcakes.
Now since I don’t expect Arrowhead to bother with such a concept, indie devs should definitely seize the opportunity. A Metal Slug-like game in which you kill bugs, with mini-bosses and a full dismemberment system would be a dream come true for a lot of old-school gamers. Hell, you can even replace bugs with dinosaurs. You know, because dinosaurs sell better than bugs.
All you have to do is take a good look at this fan video. The gunplay should be similar to what is being shown here. Seriously, this is the perfect blueprint for an addictive retro 2D action shooter.
If you are into demakes, we also suggest taking a look at the following ones. Back in June 2022, 64 Bits shared a 16-bit SNES demake video for Elden Ring. And let’s not forget this cool SNES demake for Warframe. Then, in August 2023, we shared a 32-bit demake for Tomb Raider: Legend. You can also find demake videos for Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil 5, The Witcher 3 and Resident Evil 4. And lastly, you can download and play the demakes of Bloodborne, Silent Hills PT, and Dead Space.
But wait, you can also download some other free fan demakes. For instance, you can download a demake of Bloodborne. There is also an amazing Portal Demake for N64. Then we have this Quake 4 in Quake 1 Demake. Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 also received cool PSX Demakes, so be sure to get them from here and here. Let’s also not forget this 16-bit demake of Mega Man X8. And finally, you can download this Silent Hills P.T. Demake in GZDoom. All of them are cool, so be sure to get them.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
