FlipSwitch Games has shared a video from its upcoming game based on the science fiction novel, The War of the Worlds. This novel became famous in 2005 thanks to a movie from Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Cruise.
War of the Worlds is going to be a horror open-world survival game. You’ll be right in the middle of an alien invasion, and your main goal is to stay alive and figure out how to defeat the alien machines. In the game, you can search buildings for supplies, battle other survivors who might not be friendly, hide from the alien machines, and do your best to survive.
Now what’s interesting here is that the game will let you assume the role of the aliens. As the aliens, your goal will be to exterminate all humans, harvest their blood, and fertilize the earth with it. And yes, you’ll be able to control the Tripods.
The game’s idea is cool, but it still needs a ton of improvements. Also, I’d recommend avoiding its first trailer. That trailer was really bad. Luckily, the new gameplay video looks way better. So, I’m kind of optimistic, to be honest.
There is a lot of potential here so I really hope that FlipSwitch Games will keep working on it. This could be a hit. Or at least I like almost everything about it. It just needs better graphics, animations, and AI.
FlipSwitch Games is a small team so I don’t expect miracles. I’m also certain that the team will want to release it Early Access so that it can quickly recoup its development costs. And it would be a shame to release it in an unpolished state. Again, this has a lot of potential.
