Rise of the Ronin feature

Here’s Rise of the Ronin at 8K/Max Settings with DLSS 4 MFG X4

NVIDIA has just added support for DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Gen in Rise of the Ronin with the latest version of the NVIDIA app. Thus, I’ve decided to capture some gameplay footage from it at 8K.

In order to capture this video, I used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. I also used Windows 10 64-bit and the GeForce 572.70 driver.

At 8K with DLSS 4 Quality Mode and MFG X4, the NVIDIA RTX 5090 can push 100-130FPS. Moreover, while there is some small input lag, the game is fully playable. In the video, you can see some perfect parries I could do while fighting various enemies. Rise of the Ronin requires precise timing for perfect parries. So, the fact I can do them shows that the additional input lag of MFG X4 will not make the game unplayable.

My biggest issue with MFG X4 is the one I’ve been having with almost all of the games that support it. And that’s the visual artifacts. Sadly, there are noticeable artifacts when panning the camera. At 8K, the HUD elements are not also moving that smoothly (they appear stuttery). Plus, there are some weird flickering issues (you can notice them in the video). Things get better at 4K when it comes to the HUD elements. Furthermore, the flickering issues are completely gone at 4K. However, there are still artifacts around the main character.

Visual-wise, 8K does not bring any major improvements to the game. Okay okay. It looks a bit better than 4K with DLSS Q. However, 8K won’t magically transform Rise of the Ronin into a great-looking title.

The only thing that you can do to improve the game’s visuals is to play it on an HDR monitor. Well, on a high-quality HDR monitor. Rise of the Ronin has an amazing HDR implementation on PC. The game looks noticeably better with HDR, to the point that it can look beautiful. I’m genuinely shocked at how much better the game looks with HDR.

Finally, as you will see, I hadn’t enabled Ray Tracing in this video. Right now, a lot of reflections still use SSR (even with that option enabled). So, until Team Ninja fixes it, I suggest disabling it. What’s the point of hammering your overall performance when most of the reflections are still using SSR?

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
