NBA 2K25 feature

NBA 2K25 gets an official gameplay trailer that only has… replays and zero direct gameplay footage

2K Games has released an official gameplay trailer for NBA 2K25 that… does not feature any proper or direct gameplay footage. Instead, this trailer is full of replays. This is hilarious and shows how out of touch a lot of companies are.

Now if that trailer was named something like “Official Gameplay Features“, then we wouldn’t really have any problem with it. Because the trailer does highlight some of the new gameplay features. Still, 2K Games should take some notes from EA. I’m laughing as I’m typing this but yes, EA has at least included some proper gameplay sequences (from the zoom-out camera) in its FIFA 25 trailer.

2K Games claims that NBA 2K25 will have an all-new dribble engine, signature Go-To shots, shot timing profiles and a brand-new defensive movement system. So, you’d at least expect to see some direct gameplay footage with the Side or Broadcast cameras. But nope. All we get are replays that do not show, in any way, how the game will play.

For what it’s worth, 2K Games is not the only company that has done this. We’ve seen a lot of “gameplay” trailers for racing games that only have replays. The F1 series immediately comes to mind. Or how about the “gameplay” trailers of action games that mostly have in-engine cut-scenes?

Anyway, 2K Games will release NBA 2K25 on PC on September 6th. This time around, the PC version will be based on the Xbox Series X/PS5 versions. So, at least we’ll get the full basketball casino version. Hey, that’s something.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
