In May 2024, we shared a screenshot from what appeared to be an in-engine trailer for Star Wars: Outlaws. At that time, we assumed it was a screenshot from its Ubisoft Forward 2024 trailer. However, that’s not the case. Instead, this image was from an internal trailer from 2022 which was leaked earlier today.
This leaked trailer is of low quality. Thus, you will not be able to use it to see whether the upcoming game has been downgraded. However, you can clearly see all the gameplay elements that will be present in the final version.
Back in 2022, this Star Wars game was codenamed Project Helix. And, as you can see, Ubisoft Massive has managed to retain almost everything from it. Space fights will be in Outlaws, the cantina will be also present, as will the speeder bikes and a lot of the environments and characters.
Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. In this game, players will explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new.
Players will assume the role of Kay Vess; an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life. Alongside Vess, players will find her companion Nix. Players will fight, steal, and outwit their way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as they join the galaxy’s most wanted.
Star Wars Outlaws will be powered by the Snowdrop Engine, and it will support DLSS 3 at launch. Or at least that’s what NVIDIA has stated. And, since this is Ubisoft we’re talking about, I don’t expect it to pull another Dragon’s Dogma 2 on us.
The game will also have Ray Tracing effects. Ubisoft and NVIDIA haven’t shared any additional details about these RT effects. My guess is that we might get RTGI, similar to what we saw in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Finally, we do know that this Star Wars game will not be exclusive to Ubisoft Store. Instead, it will be coming to both the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store.
Ubisoft will release Star Wars: Outlaws on August 30th.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
