Skyrim Riften in Unreal Engine 5

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Riften in Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite looks unbelievably beautiful

Leo Torres has created an amazing video that shows the real size of Skyrim’s city, Riften, in Unreal Engine 5. The video will give you an idea of what a Skyrim remake could look like in Unreal Engine 5. That’s never going to happen. I mean, Bethesda won’t ever drop the Creation Engine. Still, this is something that looks really amazing. So, let’s take a look at it.

To create this project, the artist used a mix of third-party models and custom assets modelled in Blender, textured in Mixer. Moreover, he used Nanite for all models and foliage. Plus, Lumen was used for global illumination and reflections.

For those unaware, The Real Scale Skyrim series is a project to show what Tamriel’s cities would look like if they were more realistic and true to the game’s lore. Torres has also recreated MarkarthBlackreachWhiterunSolitudeWinterhold, Falkreath, and Morthal.

Do note that this isn’t in real-time. Instead, the area was rendered out on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. So, I don’t believe this is possible in real-time. My guess is that with some optimizations, though, we could get close to it. But that’s just an assumption. Still, this looks cool so be sure to check it out.

Now I know what some of you may be wondering. Will TES6 be able to match these visuals? The answer is most likely no. Unless, of course, TES6 only targets next-gen platforms, like PS6 and the next Xbox. However, this is Bethesda we’re talking about. So yeah, it seems unlikely.

Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look.
