Unknown Dino, an artist who works in the upcoming dino FPS, FEROCIOUS, has shared a short fan film based on the Half-Life universe. This video showcases what a trailer for a sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode 2 could look like.
In this trailer, we get to see the world of the Combine as they prepare for their next attempt to regain control of Earth. As you will see, their world looks nothing like Earth.
For this trailer, the artist created from scratch almost every visual asset. This includes concepts, models, textures, rigs, and animations. The only exceptions to this are G-man and Dr. Breen’s face. Moreover, Unknown Dino did not use any generative AI assets or tools for this project, even for the concept stage.
The main inspiration for this short film was the Half Life 2 Artbook “Raising The Bar”. Plus, Alien, Prometheus, Denis Villeneuve sci-fi movies and the Scorn game were used as additional inspirations.
The end result is quite amazing, and I highly recommend watching the video.
Now before getting excited, no. Unknown Dino does not plan to turn this into a proper game. So, don’t expect another free fan-made HL3 game. That’s not going to happen. So, make sure to temper your expectations. This is just a cool concept video and nothing more.
As said, the artist is currently working on an upcoming FPS that will have dinosaurs. FEROCIOUS promises to feature rich, detailed environment, textured with a mixture of hand-crafted and photo-sourced assets. The island’s shores are hammered by simulated waves, and the forests are dense with destructible foliage and physics-driven trees.
The game is inspired by classic pulp adventure stories like King Kong and Jurassic Park, as well as modern tactical shooters such as Crysis. And although it doesn’t have any ETA as of yet, I’m really looking forward to it.
The last time we heard about FEROCIOUS was almost a year ago. So, we might get a new trailer this month. Perhaps at Summer Game Fest 2024?
Anyway, enjoy the video and stay tuned for more!
