A few days ago, we informed you about the release of the Megacity Sample Project (which is basically the city that Epic Games used for The Matrix Awakens demo). This Megacity uses Lumen, Nanite and Metahumans, and showcases what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of. And, from the looks of it, this tech demo is one of the most demanding ones.
For starters, this tech demo is really heavy on the CPU. As such, and even with high-end AMD Ryzen CPUs, a lot of gamers will encounter CPU bottlenecks, even at 4K. Things get better once you start using Intel’s high-end CPUs though.
According to Beyond3D’s Andrew Lauritzen, the tech demo runs between 40-50fps when flying around on an Intel i9 12900k with 32GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090.
YouTube’s AJ Gaming has also used a similar system, showcasing the demo running between 30-50fps at 4K.
Before closing, we should note that this tech demo appears to be lacking any major optimization tweaks. This could explain this underwhelming performance, even on high-end systems. Furthermore, there are major stuttering issues when driving. Again, this is most likely due to the lack of optimizations. Nevertheless, it’s cool witnessing this tech demo in action.
Enjoy!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
